Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides parent(s)/guardian(s) of a HIDOE student, the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teacher(s) and if the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so their qualifications.
Thanks to a nationwide waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), all students at Hawaii's 257 public schools statewide will receive free breakfast and lunch for the entirety of SY 2021-2022. A parent letter sent home encourages you to continue to submit the Free and Reduced Price Meal applications since the information derived from the applications will continue to directly impact Title I eligibility and other benefits such as bus transportation and the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) food assistance program.
